This report needs to be about Japan’s demographic trends and policy, see below and attached the brief I was given to write this report. I have also included sources that are relevant to writing this report that I would like some of to be utilised.
Contents of Report
You have been assigned by the Ministry of Population to write a report on the demographic
situation of your assigned country. You must take into account the knowledge you have
gained in each demographic area and assess whether any population policies should be
recommended. You can use tables or figures to illustrate your main points.
Population Structure
1. Describe the population structure of your country. Is the population increasing or decreasing?
How do the three components of the population contribute to the population structure?
2. How does the country’s population structure compare to that of other OECD (e.g. high
income) countries?
3. Do you think that the population situation in the country is a cause for concern?
Mortality
1. Briefly describe trends in mortality and how they compare to international trends.
2. How has the country coped with the Covid-19 pandemic?
3. What might be some of the key underlying reasons for the current mortality conditions?
4. Is there any evidence that mortality differentials by socioeconomic status have widened over
the past few years?
5. What are the most important focal areas for government policy?
Migration
1. Briefly describe trends in migration and how they compare to international trends.
2. Discuss the main sending countries and reasons for migration flows.
3. Do you think that the country should encourage or discourage migration in the future?
Population Ageing
What are the most pressing issues facing the country regarding its elderly population? Reflect
on issues such as the age of retirement and employment at older ages, and the pension and care
system.
Provide a summary of the country’s demographic profile and your policy recommendations.
Each section includes a synthesis of key demographic explanations and a critical analysis of
whether they apply to the country. While reference to official sources and information found
on the internet is important, simply summarizing these sources will not be sufficient. In
addition, the goal is not to address each policy in detail, but to provide a general overview of
key policy issues.
Please include several of these sources to formulate the analyse:
